School Counselor

Sheila Kelly, M.A., Parker’s School Counselor, serves as a liaison between home and school, particularly in situations where personal or family issues may be affecting a student’s academic or behavioral performance. Sheila welcomes parents who would like to discuss concerns about their children, either by phone or in person. She provides short term individual counseling for students and will make appropriate referrals when necessary. When requested or as needed, Sheila consults with outside providers and agencies to support the best care for our students.

Sheila currently serves as a resource for Parker Stand Up, the Parker GSA and the Peer Leadership Program. The Counseling/Nurse’s suite holds a large collection of reading material on parenting and adolescent development that parents and students are welcome to browse through and borrow.  In addition, parents should keep an eye out for announcements regarding area lectures and workshops, including those held at Parker. These announcements are published weekly in Friday Announcements. Some of the issues Sheila addresses with students and parents include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Academic Stress
  • Social  Concerns
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Eating Disorders
  • Family/Divorce
  • Self Harm
  • Gender Identity
  • Sexuality
  • Substance Abuse/Addiction
  • Student/Teacher working relationships
