We appreciate your support for the culture of adult collaboration and continuous learning that defines the Parker faculty. We are lucky to work with thoughtful and committed professionals who embrace this team approach. We meet as teaching teams every day, with extended opportunities on early release Wednesdays. We use that time to plan lessons and design curriculum, learn and grow as a faculty, and discuss ways that we can better support students individually and collectively. These opportunities for professional development are important in every school, none more so than Parker.
This past Wednesday was a great example of how our commitment to professional growth supports student learning at Parker. Once a year, we invite secondary educators from around the region to join us for a workshop called Looking at Student and Adult Work. This is not only an opportunity to disseminate our work, a requirement of all charter schools, it also helps to shine a light on key elements of our program and welcome feedback.
During the session, Parker teachers shared the goals and expectations for standards-based assessments in their class. Participants used protocols to make observations and build meaning, referring to Parker’s articulated Criteria for Excellence, associated rubrics, and the work itself. This represents an essential opportunity to ask for feedback, reflect and revise – just like our students.
All the best,
Brian
Please join the members of the Class of 2024 on Wednesday, April 10th, from 7-8:30 pm in the Gym as they showcase their Senior Projects!
We encourage all members of the Parker Community (students, parents/guardians, alumni) to come talk with our seniors in this science-fair style event. Seniors will share the learning they have done, the experiences they have had, and the products they have created. This lead-up to Senior Exhibitions is a great opportunity for students and families from Division 1 (come right after Noche Sabrosa!) and Division 2 to see what they will someday be asked to do!
Upon your arrival, you will be given feedback sheets for at least one senior. We ask that you head over to talk to that senior first, check out their trifold boards, ask them questions about their projects, and then fill out the feedback form. After that, feel free to talk to other seniors and learn about their projects.

Lisa recently acquired menstrual product dispensers that will be installed in each of the non-gender and girls' bathrooms throughout the school. We would very much appreciate donations of menstrual products to help fill the dispensers.
Other items: tissues, crunchy granola bars, and fabric Band-Aids.
Parker PAC is pleased to present an opportunity for Parker parents to learn about the differences between high school and college for students who might seek accommodations (academic, medical, or therapeutic). It is not necessary for your Parker student to have a current education plan for you to attend; we welcome all parents and caregivers who are curious about how to support their student in getting ready for accommodations in college. Details below:
Henry and Emily’s Advisory wants your new or gently used books for a special library just for kids at the Worcester Courthouse. We’re working with CASA, a non-profit that advocates for the best interests of children in foster care in Worcester County. One way you can help support these kids is to
bring a book for toddlers through teens on any (non-religious) topic and drop it in a collection box in the front foyer here at Parker starting on Monday and until April 30th. Since the kids are encouraged to take the books home and keep them, CASA is always looking for help filling the shelves. Books can be in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Farsi… any language! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Emily at
[email protected]. Thank you!
A group of students in the Youth Venture community elective is running a donation drive to help animals in need. Drop off sealed, non-expired, canned and bagged dog and cat food in the lobby from April 1 to April 12. Record your advisor’s name and what you donated on the provided sheet so that your advisory can win a pizza party! All donations will go to the Worcester Animal Rescue League. If you have any questions, please reach out to our contact representative, Zephyr Schermerhorn, at [email protected].
The Lost & Found closet (across from Room 28) will be cleared out on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Please stop by before that date to check for and claim any items belonging to you or your loved ones!
