Technology Recommendations for Incoming Students


Software and Infrastructure Provisions

Students and Faculty at Parker are provided with several resources in conjunction with their Parker accounts. These include access to premium software and services on both personal and school laptops including:

  • A school email address,
  • A full suite of Office 365 Professional Plus office products (a $144 annual value), which include both desktop and web versions of:
    • Word
    • PowerPoint
    • Excel
    • Access
    • Outlook
    • OneNote
    • Online web storage of up to 1TB with OneDrive for Business
    • Access to school printers from both personal and school devices
    • Filtered high-speed wireless access to the internet through a dedicated student connection

Recommended Specs for Optional Personal Laptops

Parker is a Microsoft Windows environment. Parker has Windows 10 computers for in-school use for students.  Students are not required to have their own laptops. However, since many students do obtain their own laptops, Parker recommends that the laptop meets the following minimum requirements:


Note about Macs

While the three most recent versions of MacOS do support Office 365 and Parker WiFi, Parker recommends Windows PCs for parents considering buying new laptops for incoming and current students for a seamless integration.


Note about Chrome OS Laptops
While Chrome OS does support web versions of Office 365 products, it does not support full desktop versions. Web versions of Office products may lack functionality required by some courses. Examples of some limitations may include advanced tools and formulas in Excel or editing features in Word. Students will have access to school computers for assignments that require this technology, but this may influence your decision when making a purchase for your student.

Web browser

All major web browsers are supported. For the best user experience, Parker recommends either Chrome or Microsoft Edge on both Mac and Windows.

Data Retention

Students have 30 days after departure from Parker enrollment before their accounts are deactivated. They will need to transfer files from their Parker Office 365 accounts to a personal storage option to retain their data.
