Happy Friday from the Health Office!
Postural screening will take place for students in grades 7-9 in early April. Students who are already being treated or monitored for scoliosis or other spinal curvatures do not need to be screened. This is often not documented on physical forms provided by your child’s doctor or nurse practitioner. Please contact me to let me know whether your child has already been diagnosed.
Parents/guardians of students not currently known to have spinal curvature who would prefer to have this screening performed at their child’s health care provider’s office are also welcome to do this. Please have your health care provider send documentation that this screening was performed and what the results are. If it has been greater than six months since your child’s last physical I recommend having this screening performed at school.
If you DO NOT want your child to have postural screening at school please call, email or send a note before April 1st.
Students in grades 7-9 are growing rapidly and it is during this period of rapid growth that curvatures of the spine can present. Early detection can minimize the need for complex treatments later on.
Students will be screened during Wellness gym class in small, same sex groups. I will give boys the option of group or individual screening but girls will be screened individually. Boys will remove their shirts and girls should wear a bra, sports bra, bathing suit top, or cami/tank top. Feel free to call or email me with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org or 978-772-3293 x 135
A Reminder for Student Athletes:
There are many athletes who don't have a current physical to start the spring season. Per MIAA (Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association), all athlete physicals must be within 13 months of the start of the season and must remain current throughout the season. An athlete without a physical will NOT be able to participate (including practice) until they are current. If you have a question about a physical, please feel free to email or call Lisa, the school nurse: email@example.com or 978-772-3293 x135.
Don't forget the Opioid Misuse Prevention for Student Athletes AND Concussion documents! They can be found on the Parker website under Athletics and then Forms. These forms must also be completed before a student can participate.
PLEASE emphasize with your students the importance of
NEVER sharing water bottles with other students!
Don’t forget to cover those coughs and sneezes
and wash your hands often!
Be well - Smile often - Stay healthy!
Warm Regards, Nurse Lisa
