Meal Charging at Parker Charter School

To develop consistent meal charging practices, have clarity among our families, support our staff, and respect all our students, Parker has put together this document to explain how meal charging at Parker works. Please see the FAQ on the Cafeteria page on this website for additional information about the school lunch program, our online account payment system with PaySchools Central, and free and reduced meals applications. If you have question please reach out to the Business Office.

Background:

Parker uses a Point of Sale system (POS), allowing students to have cashless lunch accounts. PaySchools Central, our lunch account vendor, integrates with Rediker, our current student information management system.

  • Students use their ID cards to pay at the register, which means they need to carry the actual ID or a digital version with them daily.
  • Using a student’s unique ID number, an account can be created on PaySchools Central, where funds can be added. Cash or check can also be sent directly to school addressed to the Business Office.
  • Cash and checks are not accepted at the register. Payment should be brought to the office first thing in the morning for processing.
  • For the 2018-2019 school year, Parker’s nutrition program costs will be lunch $4.00 and breakfast $2.00.
  • Students cannot use their account to pay for friends or siblings. Parents/Guardians can request transfers between sibling accounts through the Business Office.
  • In general, parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring and funding accounts or supplying lunch for students.
  • Parent/Guardians will be responsible for fee associated with returned checks for insufficient funds.

Low Balance Notifications and Delinquent Accounts

  • When creating a student’s account, parents/ guardians are able to set up recurring deposits and set up e-mail notifications when the student’s account falls below a certain dollar amount.
  • In addition, the Business Office will be sending notices via email to the registered primary email address when the account gets to a $5 balance
  • The system will allow account to go $12 negative if parents/guardians forget to add funds
  • Please be aware that if the balance on your child’s account becomes excessively low – below $12, you will receive a phone call from the school. It is expected that the account immediately be funded.
  • In an attempt to not embarrass the children, we will not deny food in the service line.
  • As always, reach out to the Business Office or Parker’s website for the Free and Reduced lunch application at any point during the school year.
  • When a student account goes beyond $12 negative, the account is considered delinquent. The Kitchen Manager will then begin collection efforts with the parents/guardians. If these attempts do not result in prompt payment, then the account will be sent to the Business Manager, who will attempt collection. Collection efforts may result in denial of access to discretionary school programs such as sports, graduation activities, extracurricular activities, etc.

Free and Reduced Lunch

  • To maintain confidentiality, a student’s free or reduced lunch status is automatically built into the system. Other than the cashier handling the transaction, no one, not even the child, will be aware that a purchase is part of the free and reduced program.
  • The Free and Reduced lunch program is a federally regulated program.
  • One full lunch and one full breakfast per day is covered at the free/reduced rate. If students on free or reduced lunch purchase additional items (such as an extra slice of pizza) they will be required to pay full price for the additional items.

Year end, Graduation, and transfers

  • Balances will carry forward school year to school year.
  • Graduating seniors must pay balances before receiving their caps and gown
  • Upon graduating or withdrawing from Parker, balances will be refunded. Alternatively, parents/ guardians may choose to transfer the balance to an enrolled sibling’s nutrition account or to donate the balance back to the school.
