Happy Friday from the Health Office!
Currently, there is a virus going around Parker that is starting with nausea, headache, and then progressing to a sore throat and cold symptoms (runny nose, congestion, coughing). Most are presenting with a hoarse voice and even losing their voice (laryngitis). There hasn’t been an associated fever with this particular virus. Most students still attend school because they don’t have fever. Please encourage clear fluids (anything you can put into a glass and see through) and give over-the-counter cold medications prior to coming to school. The school nurse is unable to give cold medications at school unless there is a physician’s order to do so.
There have been confirmed cases of the flu in our community. The symptoms can last for several days to two weeks and can cause mild to severe illness. Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated every year. Once you get vaccinated, it takes approximately two weeks for the body to make antibodies to protect you against the flu but lasts throughout the entire flu season. Protect yourself now!
Remember: School policy requests that students who have an illness with fever do not return to school until fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication.
