Community Connections - April 8

Community Connections Week 4

Highlights:
Lessons from an Alum

This week’s Community Connection is brought to you by PJ Roduta—a Parker alumni of the Class of 2002.  PJ is a Pittsburgh-based percussionist, dance accompanist, composer, and teacher with a BA in music, an MA in Adult Learning and Training, and 4 months study of traditional Ghanaian music at the University of Ghana.  In his video, he shares his experiences from his senior project journey 18 years ago and his passion for life-long learning that began at Parker.  PJ’s message is especially relevant to seniors—or any student who has thought about their senior project.  As a bonus, at the 8:25 mark in the video, PJ will teach you how to juggle!  This video is a little long but is 15 minutes well spent watching! Thank you, PJ!

New Self-Directed Learning Resources

We’ve updated the Self-Directed Learning Resources page layout and added (new) tags for new content this week. We will continue to mark new content each week and move it up the page. Highlights for this week include:

  • How to know if your sourdough starter is ready for baking
  • Explore nature at home and bird-of-the-day videos
  • Crafting kits from Periwinkle Art and Glassworks in Acton
  • Virtual Trail Races
  • Volunteers needed for special collections, museums and archives
  • A Concord, NH psychotherapist discusses handling stress during this uncertain time
  • The New England Aquarium and Seacoast Science Center – virtual tours and activities
  • A very unique version of Bolero by the National Orchestra of France
  • Hogwarts Escape Room anyone!

Do you have a video, photos, or other content for this page to share with our community? Send it to Carolyn at cedwards@theparkerschool.org.

Spirit Cheer!

If we were on campus we might start a new Community Block to coordinate and promote some of the great community building and spirit ideas circulating like hosting a Virtual Spirit Week (Get Out of Your Pajamas Day!) or an online Café Wednesday. Instead, we’re inviting anyone—students, teachers, parents, alums—interested in this work to contact Katrina (ktedstone@theparkerschool.org).
