Weekly Information for May 5th

Weekly Information for May 5th
Dear Parker students, families and staff,

We commend the entire student body for the moment of reflection and solidarity that we shared on Monday. Conceived and led by a group of concerned students, we came together as a school to condemn the antisemitic hate speech impacting our school. Through their leadership and heartfelt testimony, our student leaders challenged us to keep talking, learning and acting as one school. We reflected in Advisory on what we can do as individuals and a larger community to be upstanders. Our students are proudly showing what allyship and community looks like. We will continue to take an authentic and student-led approach to this work.

Congratulations and good luck to all Parker seniors during the four days of Senior Exhibition that run through Tuesday, May 9th. This is the culmination of your Parker career and the final demonstration of mastery for graduation...

Demonstration of Mastery

Students should have opportunities to exhibit their expertise before family and community. The diploma should be awarded upon a successful final demonstration of mastery for graduation: an “Exhibition.”

Senior Exhibitions are a moment of reflection and celebration for students, families and staff. Students share the Essential Question and outcomes of their Senior projects and reflect on their learning journey. We appreciate the juniors, staff and members of the community who serve on panels and provide feedback. Senior Exhibitions elicit a range of emotions, from relief to nostalgia, as do many of the milestones of senior year. Enjoy the next month and congratulations!

Lost & Found Pickup is on May 9th

The next clean-out of the LOST and FOUND will be on Tuesday, May 9th. Please stop by before that date (e.g., while you're here to see an Exhibition) to search for and claim any items belonging to you or your loved ones. Thank you!

MCAS 7th & 8th Grade May 10-11

Reminder 7th & 8th Grade Math MCAS is next Wednesday, May 10th, and Thursday, May 11th. Please make every effort to have students in school and on time for testing days. All students should eat a good breakfast each day and get a good night’s rest the night before – those two things are the best “test-prep” we can recommend! Students who miss any testing day will make-up the test on a day following the original test date.

If you have any questions, please contact Deb Merriam ([email protected]). All tests are untimed, and most students finish by late morning. Parents/guardians and students will get grade/test specific emails with more details that will go home as each test date approaches.

Parker Fund Challenge

ELEVEN MORE! We need 11 more current families to participate! If you have not yet given your 2022-2023 gift, your donation will help secure a $20,000 gift from some very generous graduate families. At Parker, where everyone is known, all gifts are noticed and felt! Click here to make your contribution! YOUR GIFT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Next Week is Staff/Teacher Appreciation Week!

Parker Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week is next week - May 8 – 12, and it’s not too late to take part! Here’s how you can help:

  • ECO is collecting gift cards through 8:30am on Friday, May 12th. Gift cards can be from any place and in any denomination. ECO will draw teacher/staff names on Friday morning. It would be great to collect enough cards for every staff member to receive one. Donations can be made through 8:30am that morning- please leave them in the box in Katrina Tedstone’s office.
  • Write a note or a card to a Parker person you appreciate - or send an appreciative email - encourage your kiddos to do this too.
  • There are just a few openings left on the SignUp Genius:

Thank you to everyone who is helping to make the week special!

Café Wednesday

Do you love skits, gags, and pictures of funny looking dogs? Well, we've got at least two of those at CAFE WEDNESDAY! The last Café Wednesday of the year will take place on Wednesday, May 24th, from 6:30 to 8 PM. Join us for a night of joy, performances, and Rubik's Cubes! A concession stand will sell snacks and drinks to fundraise for the school beautification youth venture community block. You can sign up to perform at Café Wednesday by scanning the QR code on the posters around the school and filling out the form. We asked a predictive AI generator to come to Café Wednesday and it said “sure, I’d love to! Talent shows are fun to watch!" So definitely be there! Send an email or teams chat to [email protected] or [email protected] with any questions! We can't wait to see you there!

Tissues Needed

The Health Office is currently in need of boxes of tissues to distribute to classrooms and would also appreciate donations of 4 oz. cups. Thank you!

Dental Appointments

Reminder the dentist is returning to Parker on Tuesday, May 30th. Students have an opportunity to receive either initial or follow-up (6 month) dental care here at Parker School through the Caring for Kids program. All dental personnel will be vaccinated and screened prior to working on students. Please read about Caring for Kids and complete the documents by clicking HERE and return to Nurse Lisa as soon as possible. The dental program provides a dental examination, X-rays, fluoride treatment, sealants, dental education, teeth cleaning, silver diamine fluoride (as needed), and SMART restorations. There is no direct cost to the patient. However, if the child has insurance, the insurance will be billed. If you have any questions, please email Lisa Zick at [email protected].
