Parker Families:

How did you first hear about Parker?  I’m writing at the opening of Enrollment Season to call your attention to upcoming Remote Information Sessions for your neighbors and for all families of prospective students to learn about Parker prior to the Annual Admissions Lottery, which will be held this year on Thursday, February 4th, 2021.

Most of the content in the information sessions is aimed at students and families not currently enrolled at Parker. Currently enrolled families are welcome, of course, knowing the sessions are pitched at folks completely unfamiliar with the program. Siblings of currently enrolled students have preference in the lottery, but siblings of currently enrolled students DO need to file an application by the February 1st deadline.

Thanks for being part of the annual recruitment and enrollment process!  We are grateful for parent volunteer panelists at the information sessions and for the strong “word of mouth” recommendations to your neighbors and friends.

Application is Open

Enrollment lottery applications will be accepted from December 1-February 1 for new students and siblings of current students entering grades 7-9. Siblings of current students must apply if intending to enroll at Parker.  To submit an application, visit http://parker.school/apply.


Lawn Signs

Do you live on a well-traveled road? Are you willing to host a lawn sign until February 1? We need your help spreading the word about Parker to people in our sending towns during this current enrollment season. These signs are made of waterproof coated biodegradable paperboard and do not need to be returned. Please contact Monique at mbeganski@theparkerschool.org if you can help in this way.

Ski & Snowboard Club

The Parker Ski & Snowboard Club begins at Wachusett Mountain on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, and will run six (6) sessions, ending on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. The cost of the six-week Lift Badge is $161 if purchased before 12/8/20 or $176 if purchased after 12/8/20. Parents must provide transportation to and from the mountain. Click here to learn more.

Teacher Appreciation

ECO has organized a way for families to show their appreciation of Parker teachers by bringing treats to the school for them.  Please click here to learn more and sign up.

Student Directory

A printed Student Directory can be purchased at the front office for $3 beginning Monday afternoon. If you would prefer to have a directory mailed to you, you can send $5 to Parker School or pay $5 online via UniPay under Misc, Fees, Other.

Materials Pick-up

The following materials are available in the Parker lobby:

  • Div 1 AH – Note Taking Packet – Needed by 12/14
  • Div 2 AH — Elective Book — Available starting 12/9; Needed by 12/23
  • Wasteland — Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close — Needed by 12/23
  • Spanish and IR books as indicated by your teacher

The lobby is open on school days from 8 AM – 3:30 PM. Other arrangements can be made as needed by emailing Monique at mbeganski@theparkerschool.org.

Student Meal Pick-up

Reminder to click here for information about free student meal service at Parker (and other locations throughout the state). Please SIGN UP for the program via this link so that we can anticipate numbers of meals needed: Student Meal Registration. Pick up hours are from 7 – 9 AM on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Winter Sports Reminder
  • Basketball: We have made the difficult decision to not offer basketball this coming winter.  In addition to safety concerns of a high-contact sport, the facilities we rely heavily on at Ayer-Shirley Middle School and Groton School are not available to us this season.  We expect to offer basketball in the '21-'22 season.
  • Track & Field: the MIAA has pushed the winter track season back to start February 22, and the season will go through mid-April and run into the start of the spring track season.
  • Hockey: the MIAA recently approved a cooperative agreement for Parker skaters to join the Littleton team, and we will begin with the '21-'22 season.
Tracking COVID-19 Numbers at Parker

Positive COVID-19 cases in the Parker community are reported to the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education (DESE), but if the individual has not been on campus, he/she poses no risk to anyone on campus and the data point gets screened out. We will now include weekly numbers of positive COVID-19 cases in the Family Information email.

The following are positive cases in the Parker community from 11/21/20-12/4/20:

  • Staff – 2
  • Students – 2

None of the above have been on campus.  If there is a positive case on campus, all close contacts will be contacted immediately by Lisa Zick, School Nurse.

DESE Reporting Website: https://www.doe.mass.edu/covid19/positive-cases/#weekly-report. Once at the site: click on the Excel box for a particular week, click on the District tab at the bottom of the page, and search for Organization Code #04780000 (Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School). The reported cases include students or staff who have been on campus within seven (7) days prior to the report of the positive case. If you have questions, please feel free to email Lisa Zick at lzick@theparkerschool.org.

Flu Vaccine Update and Health Office Reminder

If you have a religious or medical exemption and your student will NOT be receiving the flu vaccine, you must complete the vaccine exemption document which can be found on the Health Portal at www.studentehr.com.  Students without the flu vaccine OR the vaccine exemption document will not be allowed on campus.  Please don't delay getting the mandated flu vaccine for all students due by 12/31/20.  Make an appointment now with your primary care physician or visit a local pharmacy that administers vaccines.  Contact the school nurse, Lisa Zick, with any questions at lzick@theparkerschool.org.

Reminder that students should not come to school if:

  • the student or a family member living in the same household presents with COVID-19 symptoms
  • a student has been exposed to COVID-19 (close contact) and is in quarantine, regardless of a negative test result
  • a family member has been exposed to COVID-19 (close contact) and is unable to isolate from the rest of the family, regardless of a negative test result
  • a family member/student is AWAITING RESULTS of a COVID-19 test
